Announcements for the Week of April 21 to 28 2011

International Student Travel Preparation and I-20 Signing Days

As in the past, the International Student Advisors are setting aside a number of times where F-1 students can drop by the UC 116 to obtain a travel signature (required for re-entry to the U.S. after international travel) and talk with an advisor regarding any travel or visa preparations. We encourage ALL students traveling outside of the U.S. this summer to take advantage of coming to the office during "signing days" as it will ensure an expedited I-20 signature. In addition we will provide some light snacks to enjoy in case there is a short wait time to see an advisor.

Tuesday, April 19th 1-3pm

Friday, April 22nd 2-4pm

Wednesday, April 27th 11:30am-1:30pm (please note that we changed the date one week later, to STUDY DAY, due to an unavoidable conflict)

Off campus work authorization WORKSHOPS, only 2 remaining dates this semester

HIPHOPISTAN: Representing Locality in a Global City

Monday, April 25th, 7:00pm in the University Center Exhibit Hall
HIPHOPISTAN is a documentary film that examines the impact of hip-hop culture on Istanbul youth and reveals how young Turkish rappers, DJs, break-dancers, and graffiti artists creatively blend popular influences with their local cultural values and traditions.
About the Director: Çiğdem Akbay (born and raised by Turkish immigrants in Huntsville, Alabama) has spent the past five years in Istanbul, Turkey conducting anthropological research and working on various film projects. HIPHOPISTAN is a result of her growing interest in the relationships between Istanbul youth, cultural identity, and globalization. Residing between Los Angeles and Istanbul, she hopes to continue shooting documentary films dealing with similar themes.

GOOD LUCK ON FINALS NEXT WEEK!

Thank you,
International Student Advisors,
International Student and Scholar Office
