Announcements for the week of October 28 to November 4 2010

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL:


Mark your calendars and make time to attend the International Cultural Festival to be held THIS SATURDAY on the UAHuntsville campus (Shelby Center lawn). This **FREE** event will include many UAHuntsville international student organizations as well as community groups representing nearly 30 cultures will be present to share their cultures through, food, music and other types of cultural presentations. HARVEST DINNER IS NEAR: YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL HARVEST DINNER ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 15 FROM 4:30-7:30PM

In the Baptist Campus Ministries Building (Intersection of Sparkman Drive and Holmes Avenue)


Dinner consists of a home-style Thanksgiving meal including turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings.


The event is open to all UAHuntsville students. International students are encouraged to attend to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal.


**DOOR PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED IN TWO WAYS!**


1) Fill out the link (see attached flier)


AND


2) Complete a Global Trivia Quiz at your table and submit it when you are leaving to be eligible for special prizes awarded after the event.




TRAVEL SIGNATURE EVENT


Did you know students on an F-1 visa need to have their I-20 signed before winter break if traveling outside the United States? See the attached flier with the 3 days ISSO will sign I-20s on the spot, review important travel information with you. Come for the signature and refreshments and fun!


INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK:


CALL FOR STUDENTS TO SUBMIT PHOTOS AND TRINKETS REPRESENTING CULTURES OF THE WORLD!
The U.S. Department of State annual celebration to highlight the enormous, positive impact of International Education will be November 15-19, 2010. The UAHuntsville community will celebrate with in a number of ways (see a complete list below).
We encourage international students to get involved by submitting small items/trinkets/pieces of fabric that demonstrate your culture that can hang from the Tree of Cultures. In addition all UAHuntsville students are encouraged to submit photos from travel outside of their home country in the World Traveler Photo Contest. The photo contest will be judged and prizes will be awarded!!

1) A World Traveler Photo Contest (see attached flier and photo submission form)


2) A Salmon Library exhibit of World Traveler photos and a Tree of Cultures (Nov. 14-19th)


3) A public lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 17th with a reception following where the photo contest prizes will be awarded


4) Highlighting International Activities Fair in the University Center lobby on Tuesday, Nov. 16th

OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT: ONLY 2 WORKSHOP DATES REMAIN FOR THE FALL SEMESTER! *USCIS FEES SCHEDULED TO INCREASE IN NOVEMBER*


If you are graduating fall 2010 or spring 2011 and have NOT attended an off campus employment workshop, sign up today; only 4 workshops dates remain and space is limited! Off campus employment includes internships, Cooperative Education or other paid training that is not on the UAHuntsville campus. Students MUST attend a workshop before an advisor can meet to discuss individual questions. Email visahelp@uah.edu to reserve your space as participation is limited to 10 students per workshop.

*USCIS has announced increased fees for I-765 applications-ATTEND A WORKSHOP TO LEARN MORE* STUDENTS WHO SUBMIT AN OPT APPLICATION AFTER NOVEMBER 10 WILL PAY $380 TO HAVE AN APPLICATION PROCESSED
