Announcements for the week June 8-16, 2010

SUMMER OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS:
As a reminder, F-1 students must have permission from immigration to work off campus. Off-campus employment includes internships, Cooperative Education or other paid training that is not on the UAHuntsville campus. We offer employment workshops to help ensure you understand your options available. Students MUST attend a workshop before an advisor can meet with you to discuss your individual questions. Email visahelp@uah.edu to reserve a space in a workshop (space is limited to 10 students). ALL workshops will be held in the UC room 132 (small room on the back hallway of the UC BEHIND the lobby)

SUMMER WORKSHOPS:
WEDNESDAY, June 23rd 10am
FRIDAY, July 16th 1pm

MONA FOROUGHI, INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SCHOLAR ADVISOR
This week, the ISSO staff welcomed a new advisor, Mona to the office and to the University. Below is a message from Mona. Please come by the UC 116 this summer if you have time to say hello to Mona and welcome her to UAHuntsville.

Greetings! My name is Mona Foroughi and I look forward to working with all of you. I was born in Minnesota and have studied in Washington DC and Chile, and lived in Haifa, Israel. When I was living in Israel I met my husband who is from the exotic land of Huntsville Alabama. I have been here for nearly 2 years and love the beautiful scenery and Southern hospitality. When I am not in the office you can likely find me hiking, cycling, and spending time with family.

I am looking forward to getting to know you!

ISSO NEEDS YOU!!
Once again, we are looking for current students and recent alumni interested in volunteering to welcome the group of newly admitted students arriving to start their degrees at UAHuntsville this August. We have LOTS to do to prepare for the arrival of the new students and want to be sure that we provide the best welcome and assistance possible to help all of the new students get started in the right direction to be successful academically and personally. With your help we can meet our office goals! We are in need of students who can with a variety of talents and interests. While I wish I could hire international students in paid positions, the ISSO budget does not provide funds to hire students. We will try to have some fun "incentives" to thank you for your hard work

If you would like to volunteer in the office occasionally during the summer semester or specifically during the peak arrival times of the new students please send an email to visahelp@uah.edu with your full name, email address you prefer to receive correspondence, phone number, languages you speak, your summer availability (especially between August 1-August 13) and any details you think we need to know about you to help us as we prepare for the fall student arrival activities.
