Announcements for April 29-May 7, 2010

REQUEST FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING
The International Student and Scholar Office is again short staffed at a very busy time of the year for students, faculty and researchers that we serve. Please know that it is the utmost priority of Reva, Sabrina and I to address your needs fairly and consistently, to serve you efficiently and always consider any deadlines that may need to be met to ensure a successful outcome for all involved.

That being said, we are a small staff who was already working very hard to keep up with the increased volume of requests at this busy time of the year. We will continue to consider deadlines that need to be met but expect that each of you will also recognize the responsibility you have to communicate ALL requests a minimum of 1-2 weeks prior to the deadline as well as honor the student walk-in advising schedule at all times. Any last minute requests will be dealt with on a case by case basis but will not be given priority over other requests that have already been received and are in the queue. Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Walk-in Advising Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am-12noon
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 1:30-4pm

TRAVELING THIS SUMMER?

Starting this spring semester, all students traveling outside of the U.S. are STRONGLY advised to complete a “travel signature request” on-line at http://www.uah.edu/ISSO/webforms/travsignature/form.html Students who submit the form on-line a minimum of 1 week prior to the anticipated date of travel, whichever is earlier will be given priority on processing time. By completing a travel signature request on-line, you are allowing us to do all of the research and preparations necessary to process the signature BEFORE you actually come to the office with your I-20. This should result in VERY LITTLE OR NO WAITING to get your I-20 signed when you come to the office during our normal walk-in advising hours.

In addition, ISSO advisors are planning special “travel preparation days” in our office (UC 116) the last week of classes through end of final exams, May 3- May 14th. We will have some special incentives for students who choose to come to get their I-20 signed and/or speak with an advisor about travel related needs during walk-in hours May 3-14th.

Students who choose not to complete a “travel signature request” on-line at http://www.uah.edu/ISSO/webforms/travsignature/form.html will be required to fill out a request form in the UC 116 and leave their I-20 in the UC 116. Once an advisor has reviewed the request and signed the I-20 we will email you.

PARTICIPATING IN MAY GRADUATION?
The University has changed the academic regalia (cap and gown) effective this spring 2010 graduation/commencement. Any student interested in participating in the May commencement ceremony MUST purchase a new cap & gown from the University bookstore prior to or at the ceremony on Friday evening May 14th. Students will not be allowed to walk in commencement using the “old” academic regalia either purchased in the past or borrowed from a friend. Please visit the UAH bookstore for pricing and other details.
